Press Conference Schedule

A schedule of press conferences and exclusive media briefings will take place during the conference.

PRESS CONFERENCE NOTICE
When: 11th February 11 am (CET)
Where: Press Conference Room, Room 20, Bella Center

The FTTH Council Europe invites you to a unique press conference with its keynote speaker and author of the international best-seller Wiki-nomics, Don Tapscott.

The outspoken author, whose most recent book Grown Up Digital explores the effects of technology upon the new generation of citizens and businesspeople, is a passionate advocate of FTTH.  Don Tapscott’s keynote “Wikinomics – How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything” will take place at 10:00 CET on the conference’s first day. To learn more on his views regarding the significance of FTTH to the economy of the future, and the extraordinary demand for FTTH broadband services among the young, this press conference (directly following his presentation) will give registered press a rare insight into the likely future development of FTTH applications and usage with the opportunity to question Don in more detail over these issues.

PRESS CONFERENCE NOTICE
When: 11th February 1.30PM (CET)
Where: Press Conference Room, Bella Centre

The FTTH Council Europe invites you to an exclusive press preview of its new and unique sustainability tool - the Sustainable FTTH Configurator - which will be officially launched at this year's conference.

The Configurator allows the emissions benefits of FTTH deployments to be calculated - real world benefits from real world networks – by placing a refined, online emissions model in the hands of network planners and operators.

The Council's SUDEFIB committee and Price Waterhouse Coopers, joint developers of the Configurator, will demonstrate the model in action and review some typical scenarios and results. This is a one-off opportunity to get a close look at what is set to become an important sustainability tool for network operators, governments and municipalities that are planning or operating FTTH networks.

PRESS CONFERENCE NOTICE
When: 12th February 11.00AM (CET)
Where: Press Conference Room, Bella Centre

"The biomass of the Earth's ant population is four times that of us humans. Annually their calorific consumption is the equivalent of 10 billion people. How is it that all that industry and endeavour isn't over-exploiting the Earth?"

Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart argues it is because they have evolved processes that are 'eco-effective'. Ants' industrial-scale activities aren't optimised to minimise the impact on their environment: better than that, they make a net positive contribution to it. Human industrial processes, argues Dr Braungart, can be designed to do the same.

Today, Dr Braungart directs that philosophy towards information and communication networks, and has some startling and original observations to make about the sustainability of FTTH and alternative network technologies. This is an opportunity to overview Dr Braungart's main themes and ideas in a more intimate setting, with an opportunity for questions and answers.

Dr. Braungart - one time Greenpeace chemistry chief and activist, founder and scientific director of EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH (Hamburg) and co-founding principal of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry LLC (Virginia) - has built his academic and business reputation on turning this theory into practice: Cradle-to-Cradle Design.
